Description
The Rochester-Carmalt Artery Forcep 16 cm straight, is a heavy crushing clamp with longitudinal grooves, used on vascular pedicles during spay surgery.
01Product Overview
The Rochester-Carmalt Artery Forcep, 16 cm straight, is a heavy crushing clamp designed for vascular pedicles rather than individual vessels. Its jaw pattern is distinctive and functional. Longitudinal grooves run the length of the jaw with cross serrations at the tip, an arrangement that grips a bundle of tissue securely and distributes the crushing force along its length rather than shearing it at one point. This allows an ovarian or uterine pedicle to be crushed and held so that a ligature may be placed in the resulting groove.
The straight pattern is applied where the pedicle is presented directly. At 16 cm the instrument reaches comfortably within a canine abdomen. HK Medical Instruments supplies Carmalt forceps within both its canine and feline spay packs. The instrument is deliberately robust and should not be used for fine vessel work, where a mosquito or Kelly is appropriate.
