Description

The Gelpi Retractor 11 cm / 4-1/2" is a mid size self-retaining retractor with single point tips, used for orthopedic and soft tissue exposure.

01Product Overview

The Gelpi Retractor, 11 cm / 4-1/2" sits between the 9 cm and 14 cm patterns and is a practical general size. The additional length over the 9 cm version brings two changes. The arms open slightly wider, giving a larger working aperture, and the increased span between the finger rings and the tips allows the handles to rest further from the incision, which keeps them clear of the veterinary surgeon's hands.

The single point tips remain the defining feature, anchoring in fascia or muscle at one place on each side and leaving the remainder of the wound margin unobstructed. Gelpi retractors at this size are commonly used in orthopedic approaches, particularly around the stifle, and in soft tissue procedures requiring modest exposure.

04Frequently Asked Questions

Why hold more than one Gelpi size?

Different approaches require different apertures, and a retractor that is too large will overhang a small incision while one too small will not hold a larger one open.

Is this size used in orthopedic surgery?

Yes. Gelpi retractors of this size are commonly used in stifle and other small joint approaches.
