Description
The Gelpi Retractor 9 cm / 3-1/2" is the smallest self-retaining retractor in the range, with single sharp points that hold shallow incisions open in small patients.
01Product Overview
The Gelpi Retractor, 9 cm / 3-1/2", is the smallest self-retaining retractor in the range. The Gelpi pattern is distinguished by its tips, which carry a single sharp point on each arm rather than a row of prongs. A single point engages tissue at one place only, so the retractor occupies very little space at the wound margin and leaves more of the incision available to the veterinary surgeon. This is the principal reason the pattern is chosen for small incisions.
At 9 cm the instrument is light and short, which suits cats, small breed dogs, exotic patients and any shallow approach where a larger retractor would overhang the site. A ratchet holds the arms apart once opened, so retraction is maintained without an assistant. The sharp points anchor firmly in fascia and muscle, and because they penetrate the tissue, the retractor should be applied to layers that will be closed rather than to skin that must remain undisturbed.
