Kelly Rankin Artery Forcep 16 cm / 6-1/4" Straight

The Kelly Rankin Artery Forcep, 16 cm / 6-1/4" straight, is a longer variant of the Kelly pattern. The Rankin modification lengthens both the shank and the jaw while keeping the jaw comparatively slim, which allows a vessel to be clamped at depth without the veterinary surgeon's hand entering the field. This is the principal reason for selecting it over a 14 cm Kelly. In canine abdominal surgery the ovarian pedicle in particular often sits deeper than a standard haemostat can reach comfortably, and the additional 2 cm makes a practical difference.

The serrations extend over the distal portion of the jaw, and the ratchet secures the clamp while a ligature is placed. HK Medical Instruments supplies two of these forceps within its canine spay packs as well.
