The Bainbridge Artery Forcep, 18.5 cm / 7-1/4" Curved, is a fenestrated clamp used where tissue must be held securely but without the crushing effect of a solid jaw. The jaws carry an opening along their length rather than a continuous gripping face, which allows the tissue to sit within the fenestration instead of being compressed flat. This reduces the injury caused by prolonged clamping and makes the pattern suitable for holding bowel and mesenteric tissue during gastrointestinal procedures.
18.5 cm length provides the reach required for work within the abdomen. The ratchet allows the clamp to remain in position without occupying the veterinary surgeon's hand. It should be understood that a fenestrated clamp is not a haemostat in the conventional sense and is not intended for occluding an arterial pedicle, where a Carmalt is the correct choice.

Can it be used on a vascular pedicle?
No. It is not a conventional haemostat. A Rochester-Carmalt should be used for pedicle occlusion.
