Description

The Weitlaner Retractor 14 cm / 5-1/2" with 3:4 sharp prongs, anchors firmly in muscle and fascia, holding retraction stable during veterinary orthopedic procedures.

01Product Overview

The Weitlaner Retractor, 14 cm / 5-1/2" with Teeth 3:4 sharp is a general purpose self-retaining retractor with sharp tips. The choice between sharp and blunt prongs is the most important decision when selecting a Weitlaner, and it is determined by the tissue being held. Sharp prongs penetrate the tissue and anchor in it, which is necessary in muscle, fascia and dense fibrous layers where a blunt prong would slide out under tension. This makes the sharp pattern the correct choice for orthopedic approaches, where retraction must remain stable through drilling, reaming and other work that vibrates the instrument.

The 3:4 prong arrangement spreads the load across seven points of contact. At 14 cm the retractor suits approaches of moderate depth in cats and small to medium dogs. Sharp prongs should not be used adjacent to nerves or vessels, where a blunt pattern is appropriate.
