01Product Overview
The Senn-Miller Retractor, 16 cm / 6-1/4", Blade 7x8.5 mm blunt is a handheld rather than self-retaining instrument, and that distinction determines when it is used. A self-retaining retractor holds a fixed aperture, which is efficient but inflexible. A handheld retractor is adjusted continuously by an assistant, so the exposure can follow the veterinary surgeon as the dissection progresses. The Senn is double ended. One end carries a small three pronged rake, blunt on this pattern, and the other carries a flat right angled blade.
The rake lifts and holds a tissue edge while the flat blade retracts a broader surface without engaging it. At 16 cm the instrument is light and easily repositioned.
