Description
The Rochester-Pean Artery Forcep Left Hand 16 cm curved, is a transversely serrated crushing forcep with a reversed ratchet for left handed use.
01Product Overview
The Rochester-Pean Artery Forcep, Left Hand, 16 cm curved, is a transversely serrated crushing forcep configured for left handed use. The Pean pattern differs from the Carmalt in its jaw serrations, which run across the jaw rather than along it, producing a firm general purpose crushing grip on tissue and larger vessels. The left hand configuration reverses the ratchet so that it disengages under a natural movement of the left thumb. This matters more on a haemostat than on many instruments, because a clamp is frequently released at a precise moment during ligation.
A left handed veterinary surgeon using a standard forcep must rotate the wrist or apply additional pressure to release, and any resulting delay or movement at that moment is unhelpful. The 16 cm curved configuration suits abdominal work. Practices are advised to hold at least one left handed haemostat within their general inventory.

04Frequently Asked Questions
How does a Pean differ from a Carmalt?
Pean serrations run across the jaw, whereas Carmalt grooves run along it. The Pean gives a general purpose crushing grip.
Why does handedness matter on a haemostat?
A clamp is often released at a precise moment during ligation, and an awkward release introduces delay and unwanted movement.
