Rochester-Carmalt Artery Forcep 20 cm Straight

The Rochester-Carmalt Artery Forcep, 20 cm straight, is the longer version of the standard pedicle clamp. The additional 4 cm over the 16 cm pattern is significant in large breed surgery, where the ovarian pedicle sits considerably deeper within the abdomen and a shorter instrument requires the veterinary surgeon to work with the hand inside the incision. The longer shank also provides greater mechanical advantage at the jaw, which is useful when crushing a heavier or more vascular pedicle.

The jaw retains the longitudinal grooving and cross serrated tip of the pattern. The straight configuration is applied where the pedicle is presented directly to the approach. Practices performing surgery on large and giant breeds should hold this length in addition to the 16 cm, since attempting deep work with a shorter clamp compromises both visibility and control of the pedicle.
