The Hartmann Ear Polypus Forcep, 14 cm / 5-1/2" is a specialist aural instrument. Its construction reflects the anatomy it is designed to enter. The shafts are long and unusually slim so that they occupy minimal space within the ear canal, leaving the operator a working view alongside the instrument, and the small jaws are angled to grasp within a confined tubular space. Alligator style jaw action allows the tips to open and close within the canal without the body of the instrument needing to spread.
The forcep is used to grasp and withdraw aural polyps, retrieve foreign material, remove debris and take samples under otoscopic visualisation. Practices performing regular ear work will find it far more effective than attempting retrieval with a standard forcep, which obstructs the canal and offers limited control.
