Description

The Halsted-Mosquito Artery Forcep, 12.5 cm / 5", curved, is a fine haemostat whose curved tip reaches around vessels lying at an angle to the approach.

01Product Overview

The Halsted-Mosquito Artery Forcep, 12.5 cm / 5" curved shares the fine jaw of the straight pattern but carries a curve at the tip. The curve serves two practical purposes. It allows the jaws to be passed around a vessel that lies at an angle to the approach, and it keeps the body of the instrument out of the veterinary surgeon's line of sight once the clamp is applied. This second point matters when several haemostats are in place at once, as straight instruments in numbers can obscure the field.

The curved pattern is generally the more useful of the two in soft tissue surgery, and many veterinary surgeons stock curved mosquitoes in greater quantity than straight. The full length serrations grip the vessel securely, and the ratchet holds the clamp during ligation. HK Medical Instruments supplies this pattern within the canine and feline spay packs, the ear pack and the general surgery pack as well.

04Frequently Asked Questions

Should curved or straight mosquitoes be stocked in greater number?

Many veterinary surgeons stock more curved than straight, as the curve suits a wider range of soft tissue applications.

Why does the curve help visibility?

The instrument body sits away from the field once applied, which matters when several haemostats are in place at once.
