Foerster Forcep 25 cm / 10" Smooth Jaws Curved

The Foerster Forcep, 25 cm / 10" curved with smooth jaws, differs from the straight pattern in the angle of the ring jaws. That curve has a specific practical value. When swabbing within a body cavity or around a contoured surface, curved jaws allow the swab to be presented flat against the tissue rather than at an angle, which makes contact more even and the action more effective. The same applies during preparation of a curved or irregular surgical site, where a straight instrument requires the operator to rotate the wrist awkwardly.

Smooth jaws grip the swab by conforming to it and cause minimal injury should the instrument contact tissue. The ratchet holds the swab securely and the 25 cm length keeps the hand clear of the prepared area. Practices commonly hold both patterns, using the straight version for flat surfaces and the curved version where the anatomy is contoured.
