Description

The DeBakey Tissue Forcep 16 cm / 6-1/4" with 3 mm jaws is an atraumatic forcep that holds vessels and delicate tissue by friction rather than by penetration.

01Product Overview

The DeBakey Tissue Forcep, 16 cm / 6-1/4" with 3 mm jaws is an atraumatic pattern developed for veterinary vascular surgery. Its distinguishing feature is the tip design. Instead of teeth, the jaws carry a fine longitudinal ridge flanked by shallow rows of serrations, an arrangement that grips tissue by friction across a broad surface rather than by penetration at a point. This permits vessels, bowel and other delicate structures to be held securely without the crushing injury that a toothed pattern would cause.

The 3 mm jaw width is the broader of the common sizes and is appropriate for general soft tissue and vascular handling in dogs. The 16 cm length provides useful reach within the abdomen. HK Medical Instruments supplies this forcep within the premium canine spay pack as well. The tips are precision ground and should not be used to grip needles, suture or instruments, as this will damage the gripping surface.

04Frequently Asked Questions

Why are DeBakey forceps described as atraumatic?

The jaws grip by friction across a broad ridged surface rather than by penetrating the tissue, so no crushing injury occurs.

No. Gripping needles, suture or instruments will damage the precision ground surface.
