Description
The Castroviejo Needle Holder 13 cm / 5-1/4" straight is a fine spring-handled veterinary needle holder for ophthalmic and microsurgical suturing with very small needles.
01Product Overview
The Castroviejo Needle Holder, 13 cm / 5-1/4" straight differs in construction from the ring handled instruments held elsewhere on a veterinary surgical tray. In place of finger rings it has a spring body, and it is held in the manner of a pen. The jaws close under light pressure and open immediately when that pressure is released. This arrangement is of considerable benefit in fine suturing, as the surgeon may rotate the instrument between the fingers to place a suture at any required angle without repositioning the hand.
Such freedom of movement is essential in corneal, conjunctival and eyelid procedures. The jaws are very fine and are intended for the small needles used with suture in the range of approximately 6-0 to 9-0. This straight version aligns the tips with the handle, which most veterinary surgeons prefer when suturing a flat and directly visible surface. The tips are precision components and should not be used with heavy needles or as a general grasping instrument.
