The Webster Needle Holder, Left Hand, 13 cm is manufactured with a reversed ratchet for left handed use. On a conventional needle holder the ratchet is cut so that it disengages under light pressure from the right thumb. When the same instrument is operated with the left hand, the release acts against the natural direction of movement. The veterinary surgeon must compensate by rotating the wrist, using the opposite hand, or applying greater grip pressure than the procedure requires.
