Description
The Liston Bone Cutting Forcep 14 cm straight, is a compact bone cutter with opposed bevelled blades that divide small bones in a single clean cut.
01Product Overview
The Liston Bone Cutting Forcep, 14 cm straight, is a compact bone cutter. It differs from a rongeur in the shape of its blades. A rongeur has cupped jaws that bite out a fragment of bone, whereas the Liston carries two opposed bevelled edges that meet directly, dividing the bone in a single clean cut. This distinction matters clinically, since a clean division causes less fragmentation and less trauma at the cut surface than repeated biting.
At 14 cm the instrument is sized for small bones and is used in digit amputation, removal of small bony fragments, dental and oral bone work, and procedures in cats and small breeds. The straight blades cut in line with the shafts, which suits a direct approach. Bone cutters must be kept sharp, as a dull blade crushes rather than divides and produces a poor cut surface.
