Description
The Small Periosteal Elevator Fig. 19, separates mucoperiosteum from alveolar bone when raising a flap during oral surgery.
01Product Overview
The Small Periosteal Elevator, Fig. 19, product code 4910600G, is used to separate the mucoperiosteum from the underlying alveolar bone when raising a flap. The technique depends entirely on staying in the correct plane. Periosteum is firmly attached to bone, and if the instrument is allowed to lift within the soft tissue rather than directly against the bone surface, the flap is torn, thinned or perforated, and a damaged flap heals poorly and may dehisce over an extraction site.
The elevator is therefore kept in constant contact with bone throughout. The small Fig. 19 blade is proportioned for the confined space of a small animal mouth. A clean flap is essential to a closure that holds.

04Frequently Asked Questions
Why must the elevator stay against bone?
Lifting within the soft tissue tears or perforates the flap, which then heals poorly and may dehisce.
What is a mucoperiosteal flap?
It is the full thickness layer of mucosa and periosteum raised together from the bone surface.
