The Olsen-Hegar Needle Holder, 14 cm, 5-1/2" is one of the most widely used size. The length is well balanced for general veterinary practice. It provides sufficient reach for routine abdominal closure while remaining controllable during skin suturing, which allows a single instrument to serve across most of a typical veterinary surgical list. The integrated scissor section behind the jaws permits the veterinarian to tie a knot and trim the suture ends without exchanging instruments. This version is supplied in standard stainless steel rather than with tungsten carbide inserts.

It is therefore a practical choice for veterinary clinics assembling additional packs, equipping a second theatre, or maintaining several holders in rotation. The instrument can be sharpened and serviced in the usual manner and will provide extended service with appropriate care. Where a single holder is intended to be used on every procedure, the tungsten carbide version, product code 2405814T, will offer a longer working life.

Where the instrument will serve as the primary daily holder, the carbide version offers a longer working life. For additional packs, the stainless version is appropriate.
