01Product Overview
The Olsen-Hegar Needle Holder, 14 cm TC Gold is the tungsten carbide specification of the standard working size. The pattern is unchanged. It retains the balanced 14 cm length suited to most closures and the scissor section that allows the veterinary surgeon to tie and trim without exchanging instruments. The difference lies in the jaws, which carry tungsten carbide inserts. Plain stainless jaws gradually become polished with repeated use.
Once this occurs the needle is able to rotate under load, sutures are placed less accurately, and the veterinary surgeon tends to apply greater grip pressure to compensate. Tungsten carbide is substantially harder and resists this form of wear, so the instrument continues to perform consistently over an extended period. The gold-colored finger rings identify the carbide specification, which assists instrument recognition on a fully prepared tray. This specification is recommended for high volume practices, spay and neuter programmes, and any veterinary clinic seeking to reduce the frequency of jaw replacement and servicing.
