Castroviejo Needle Holder 13 cm / 5-1/4" Curved

The Castroviejo Needle Holder, 13 cm / 5-1/4" curved is intended for suturing around curved anatomical surfaces. The globe is spherical, and when a straight instrument is used to place a corneal or conjunctival suture, the hand and the body of the instrument may obstruct the veterinary surgeon's view of the needle. Curved tips allow the instrument to be introduced from the side and around the curvature, so that the point of needle entry remains visible throughout. The spring handle operates in the same manner as the straight version.

The instrument is held in the manner of a pen, the jaws close under light pressure, and they open immediately when that pressure is released. This allows the instrument to be rotated freely between the fingers to establish the required angle. The 13 cm length keeps the instrument light and responsive. Many veterinary ophthalmic surgeons hold both patterns, selecting the straight version for flat surfaces and the curved version where the anatomy would otherwise obstruct the view.
