Description
The Castroviejo Needle Holder 13 cm / 5-1/4" straight TC Gold is a tungsten carbide microsurgical needle holder for demanding veterinary ophthalmic suturing.
01Product Overview
The Castroviejo Needle Holder, 13 cm / 5-1/4" straight TC Gold is the highest specification instrument within the needle holder range. Castroviejo tips are extremely fine, which is what enables them to hold a 9-0 needle securely. That same fineness means there is very little material available to absorb wear. When plain steel tips lose their grip, the result is not a slightly loose needle but a needle that cannot be held at all, and at microsurgical scale this ends the precision of the procedure.
Tungsten carbide is substantially harder and retains its grip through repeated use and sterilisation. The remaining characteristics follow the standard pattern. The instrument has a spring handle and is held in the manner of a pen, the jaws close under light pressure and release immediately, the tips are straight for flat and directly visible surfaces, and the 13 cm body remains light in the fingers. This specification is recommended for veterinary surgeons performing corneal or intraocular procedures on a regular basis.

04Frequently Asked Questions
Why are carbide tips of particular importance on a Castroviejo?
The tips are extremely fine, so little material is available to absorb wear. Once plain steel becomes polished it will no longer hold microsurgical needles.
Who should select this specification?
Veterinary surgeons performing corneal or intraocular procedures regularly, where reliable retention of very fine needles is essential.
