Description

The Babcock Tissue Forcep 21.5 cm, straight is an atraumatic ratcheted forcep with fenestrated rounded jaws for holding bowel and tubular structures without crushing.

01Product Overview

The Babcock Tissue Forcep 21.5 cm, straight is an atraumatic ratcheted grasping forcep intended for hollow and tubular structures. Its jaws distinguish it from the Allis pattern. Where an Allis carries interlocking teeth, the Babcock has broad fenestrated jaws with smooth rounded edges that curve to encircle the structure being held. Bowel, ureter, uterine horn and similar tissues may therefore be grasped and retracted with markedly less risk of perforation or crushing.

The fenestration allows the tissue to sit within the jaw rather than being compressed flat against it. The instrument is long, which suits veterinary gastrointestinal procedures where structures must be held at depth within the abdomen. The ratchet holds the grip without continuous hand pressure. It should be noted that the smooth jaws will not hold slippery tissue as firmly as an Allis, which is the accepted trade for the reduction in tissue trauma.
