Description

The Weitlaner Retractor 18 cm / 7" with Teeth 3:4 blunt is sized for larger incisions and deeper exposure in medium and large breed patients.

01Product Overview

The Weitlaner Retractor, 18 cm / 7" with Teeth 3:4 blunt is intended for larger incisions and deeper exposure than the mid range patterns allow. In a larger patient the wound margin sits further apart and the tissue is heavier, which requires both a wider aperture and greater structural strength in the arms to hold that tension without flexing. At 18 cm the instrument provides both.

The blunt prongs hold the tissue by pressure across seven contact points, spreading the load so that a heavier margin is not concentrated on a small area. This pattern is used in general soft tissue surgery in medium and large breeds, in deeper approaches where a shorter retractor would be swallowed by the wound, and where the frame must sit well clear of the operating field. Where the tissue is dense muscle under significant tension, the equivalent sharp pattern will hold more reliably.

04Frequently Asked Questions

Why do larger retractors need stronger arms?

Heavier tissue under greater tension will flex an insufficiently rigid arm, which loses retraction during the procedure.

Is 18 cm suitable for large breeds?

Yes. It provides the aperture and strength required for larger incisions and deeper soft tissue approaches.
