Description

The Weitlaner Retractor 16.5 cm / 6-1/2" with Teeth 3:4 blunt  provides a wider aperture and a frame set further from the wound, for medium depth exposure.

01Product Overview

The Weitlaner Retractor 16.5 cm / 6-1/2" with 3:4 blunt prongs, is a step up in size from the 14 cm pattern. Length affects two things on a self-retaining retractor. The first is the aperture, since longer arms open wider and hold a larger incision apart. The second is the position of the frame, which sits further back from the wound and therefore interferes less with the veterinarian's hands and instruments.

This retractor suits incisions of medium length and moderate depth, which covers a considerable proportion of general soft tissue surgery in dogs. Blunt prongs hold the tissue by pressure rather than penetration, making this pattern suitable where the retracted layer must remain undamaged. The ratchet is set to the required tension and holds it without assistance. Where the tissue is dense muscle and the retractor tends to slip, the sharp pattern should be substituted.
