The Standard Operating Scissor 14.5 cm sharp/sharp straight, carries a pointed tip on both blades. This is the configuration chosen when the cut must begin precisely at a defined point rather than from an existing opening. With two sharp tips the scissor can be introduced directly into tissue and the cut started exactly where intended, which a blunt tip cannot do without first creating an entry. The straight blades then cut in a direct line.

The trade is that neither tip offers protection, so the instrument must not be advanced blind beneath tissue in the way a sharp/blunt pattern permits. It is selected for precise incision, cutting fine tissue and tasks where both tips need to penetrate. Practices generally hold it alongside a sharp/blunt scissor rather than instead of one.
