Straight or curved 18 cm Metzenbaum: which should I stock?

Stock both if possible. Straight suits superficial, in-line dissection; curved improves visibility around contours and at depth. Many veterinary clinics default to curved and add straight for preference.

Is this pattern suitable for large dogs?

Yes for soft-tissue dissection. For heavy fascia or dense material, pair it with a Mayo or Mayo-Stille pattern rather than overloading the Metzenbaum blades.
