Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder 14 cm / 5-1/4", TC Gold

The Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder, 14 cm TC Gold is a needle holder in its simplest form, comprising jaws and a ratchet with no cutting section. Many veterinary surgeons prefer this arrangement. Where cutting and holding are performed by separate instruments, there is no possibility of dividing a suture that was intended to remain in place. In addition, the full length of the jaw is available for gripping, so the needle may be held at any point along the jaw without regard to the position of a blade.

At 14 cm with tungsten carbide inserts, this is the shorter option within the Mayo-Hegar range. It is well suited to smaller patients, to fine and medium needles, and to veterinary surgeons who prefer a more controllable instrument. The carbide jaws maintain a secure hold on the needle throughout repeated use. This specification is appropriate for theatres in which an assistant trims sutures, and for veterinarians who prefer a clear separation of instrument function.
