Description
The Adson Tissue Forcep 12 cm with 1:2 rat tooth tips is a toothed thumb forcep used to hold skin edges securely during veterinary suturing and wound closure.
01Product Overview
The Adson Tissue Forcep, 12 cm, 4-3/4" is a toothed thumb forcep used to hold skin edges during suturing. The tips carry a 1:2 rat tooth arrangement, meaning one tooth on one jaw interlocks between two on the opposing jaw. This gives a positive hold on skin with only light closing pressure, which is the reason toothed forceps are preferred to serrated patterns for dermal work. A serrated tip requires firmer squeezing to prevent slipping, and that pressure is what crushes the tissue.
The handle is wide and flat with a ribbed surface, allowing the instrument to be held comfortably in a pen grip for extended periods. At 12 cm these forceps is short enough to remain steady in the fingers during fine work. It is a standard component of suture packs, wound repair trays and general veterinary surgical sets, and is suitable for skin closure, laceration repair and handling firmer tissue where a secure hold is required.

04Frequently Asked Questions
What does 1:2 rat tooth mean?
One tooth on one jaw sits between two teeth on the opposing jaw, so the tips interlock and hold tissue without slipping.
Why use toothed rather than serrated forceps on skin?
Toothed tips hold with less closing pressure. Serrated tips require a firmer squeeze, which is more likely to crush the tissue.
