Iris Scissor 11.5 cm/4-1/2" curved with TC Gold tungsten carbide inserts, is the premium specification of the fine curved iris pattern. Edge retention is particularly consequential on an instrument of this type. Iris blades are slim and their entire value lies in cutting cleanly through delicate tissue, so when the edge dulls the instrument does not simply cut less well, it begins to tear and crush the very tissue it was chosen to protect.
Tungsten carbide is substantially harder than stainless and resists that deterioration through repeated procedures and sterilisation cycles. The gold finger rings identify the specification on a tray. This version is recommended where fine dissection is performed regularly rather than occasionally.
